L'Oréal

Streamlined for Sustainability

Back to Projects

The Ask

For more than 15 years, L'Oréal has been on the leading edge of sustainability within the beauty industry. DCI has partnered with L'Oréal on numerous fixtures and displays over the years, always with an eye toward designing products that meet their sustainability requirements without sacrificing style and functionality.
One of the most popular fixtures that we produce for L'Oréal is the Hot Spot, a lighted promotional messaging display. While the existing fixture met the required sustainability standards, L'Oréal tasked DCI to reimagine it to be even more eco-friendly.

The Solution

Instead of using two vendors, DCI for producing the fixture and another L'Oréal partner for the graphics, DCI collaborated with L'Oréal to creatively reengineer the Hot Spot fixture to include a graphic light box. On top of streamlining the project and significantly reducing the fixture's carbon footprint, DCI was able to keep the price of the unit on par with what L'Oréal had previously paid through reduced freight costs.

The Impact

The new design delivered a range of sustainable improvements, including:

-4.2 lbs.
Display Weight
-50%
LED Light Usage
+65%
Recycled Materials Usage

Moreover, this exercise gave us the opportunity to learn valuable lessons in designing for sustainability and challenging the status quo of our fixtures. DCI is committed to delivering sustainable retail solutions that meet our clients' exacting standards. In 2023, DCI received a Bronze Medal from EcoVadis for our sustainability practices and policies.
